Riding with Milo
Every so often, we hear ourselves in a song on the radio, or we see ourselves in the characters of a movie, play, or story. I felt that way today. As I sat here clearing out my inbox, I finally found the time to do some of the things that have been piling up. In the process, I found myself searching out an old story, one I have not read in years. I realized that I feel as if I have been riding with Milo in his little car, and become trapped in the Doldrums .
The Phantom Tollbooth was one of the first books that I ever read, and I have not thought of it in years. I think that I just may take a trip over to Amazon Japan and see if they have a copy. I like looking back at all those children’s stories, there is comfort there. I think that I have found the next book for my bookshelf…

I’ve been reading a lot of children’s books lately, mainly because I am writing my own children’s book, but also for a lot of good memories… my favorite children’s books were many, but recently what I’ve been going back to most is the Moomin series, especially because they are still relevant today and have a lot to teach adults. My favorite story is the first one in Tales From Moomin Valley, in which one of my favorite literary characters, Snufkin, meets a lonely little critter who doesn’ have a name.
