Taiga In A Teacup

While we were in Tokyo a few weeks back, we spent an afternoon at Tokyo Disneyland. While everybody else was crowded around waiting for the Parade of Lights, my son and I ran from ride to ride trying to get as many in as possible while everybody else was distracted.
We started out by making our second trip to the “Its A Small World” ride for the day. The second time around really reminded me of the first time that I had been on this ride. About 27 years ago my father brought me to Disney in Florida, and I distinctly remember sitting beside him on that ride. I was only a few years older than my son is now… It was a nice memory. (Thanks Dad!)

We were able to fit in about four rides in that short space of time, the last one being the Teacups. I realized that I had not taken many photos that day, so I pulled out the camera to get some stills of my son’s face during the ride. He was all excited to start spinning the teacup, and was chanting “Spin! Spin! Spin!”, so I grabbed on with one hand to help him. The centrifugal force from my added effort sent him flying against the wall of the teacup with panic in his eyes. I slowed the ride a bit, tried to make sure he was OK, and then switched the camera to video and captured this movie. It catches him as he is breaking out of his “deer in the headlights” stage, and he is starting to have fun again.
At the end of the ride, I looked at him and asked him how it was. His reply is a very distracted and weak “fun…”. I thought maybe he was in shock or something…
Of course, he loved it and wanted to ride it again.
So much of being a father is just reliving, or even rewriting, your own childhood. I think that this time I want to add more adjectives, and a lot of superlatives.
