Birthday Picture

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

Today is our daughter’s third birthday, and this is the present that our four-year-old son gave to her. He woke up before all of us this morning, and ran over to her bed to sing “Happy Birthdayâ€? to her. As soon as we all moved to the living room, he took out his markers and paper and made this for her. What a great little big brother…

Cold Morning

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

Frozen pipes? No problem…
I just don’t understand women… “Not relatedâ€?, you say? I think not.
We awoke this morning to frozen pipes. My wife, none to pleased with the idea of melting snow for coffee and a bath…

Cheesecake Season

Saturday, November 27th, 2004

I look forward to the fall chill, as it brings with it the scent of cooling cheesecakes and roasting chickens in the air…Thanksgiving always symbolizes the beginning of the cold weather cooking season to me, and although we don’t have the requisite opening feast here in Japan, it seems that I fell into step anyway…. So the large cheesecake goes with us to dinner at a friend’s house tonight, and the others I am going hide in the fridge for later…Tonight will be kind of like Groundhog Day for me.

Children’s Partner Desk

Sunday, November 21st, 2004

Since it is getting cold here in West Nowhere, the paint was taking a while to dry, so I have been painting and waiting for the last few days. This morning I braved the fumes for a few more hours and threw on a few coats of lacquer to finish it off.

Furniture Design

Sunday, November 14th, 2004

What a wonderful piece of furniture. As this furniture design just does not seem to actually exist, meaning that I have never tripped over one, I had settled on the idea of just buying an adjustable drafting table and using that…. The desk may not be pretty, but it works.Emboldened by my success at putting a painted piece of plywood on my desk, I decided to go a step further…My son, currently three and a half, loves to draw.

My Vote Is For Nemo

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2004

I spent the day at a Kendo Shiai (tournament), so I was completely unable to follow the elections at all today. Since coming home two hours ago, I have been glued to the computer trying to track down info. I just cannot believe what I have been reading.

Taiga In A Teacup

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

While we were in Tokyo a few weeks back, we spent an afternoon at Tokyo Disneyland. While everybody else was crowded around waiting for the Parade of Lights, my son and I ran from ride to ride trying to get as many in as possible while everybody else was distracted.
We started out by making our second trip to the “Its A Small World” ride for the day.
